Client: Jungle of Joys (pet and pet supply shop)
Task: total rebranding focusing on an animated ad series
Purpose: To spread awareness of and attract costumers to the business.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, QuickTime & Logic Pro X
End product: logo, business cards, letterhead, poster, web ads and five, unique 30-second animations
Jungle of Joys is a humble, locally-owned pet and pet supply shop located in rural Kirksville, Missouri. Although mainly focusing on smaller pets (such as lizards, rodents, fish, birds and invertebrates) the passion for animals that exists at Jungle of Joys is larger than life. The business is family-oriented with an apparent goal of turning the pet care experience from something cold and manufactured into something personal and full of heart.
During a meeting with the client, the phrase, “If the animals could talk, they’d tell you how
great it is here!” was said, and this completely inspired the concept behind the ads. The five-part
series contains five original, reusable animal character assets, designed in Illustrator and rigged
and animated in After Effects. The voice talent and audio was organized, edited and mixed using Logic
Pro X, and over 15 original environment assets (including 5 backgrounds, boom mic, and clapboard) that
were designed in Illustrator and Photoshop depending on where the asset was to be placed. The final
ads were exported using Adobe Media Encoder and edited in Premiere Pro.
Although this job was a part of my college capstone course, I was given full access to the client and
their real practical needs. I recognized the warmth and dedication that the people at Jungle of Joys
had towards their animals and customers, and, finding that to be integral to who they are, I wanted to
highlight that in the rebrand of their business. Below is a document containing all of the non-animated
products I created as a part of the rebrand, all of which contain original assets created in Adobe Illustrator,
typeset in InDesign and mocked up in Photoshop.
This project marked the first time I’d ever utilized the 3D camera present in Adobe After Effects, which was extremely exciting for me. At the time, I was taking a photography class, and the idea of being able to utilize my knowledge of photo in an animated workspace was incredible! Although the ads were animated, I wanted the space in which they existed to feel realistic in the way it interacted with both the characters and the audience, and I feel as if that was achieved through the use of the 3D camera, a tool that I have since come to utilize often.
